This project consisted of a back patio area that consisted
of four different pours. Each pour was a different color and texture
and there was also height variations between pours. The objective
was to tie all the sections together at an even height while honoring
all the expansion joints. The homeowner wanted the look of natural
slate with a single seamless color.
The entire area was prepped and skim coated. Then
the upper section was poured at 1/4" thick and stamped with
a seamless sandstone texture. The lower section was then poured
at a thickness between 1/4" and 1/2" to make all areas
even.
The expansion joints
were then cut and random size rectangles were scribed to form
an Ashlar Slate pattern. A light gray color was desired, so a
light charcoal stain was applied.
The entire surface was then sealed
with 2 coats of sealer and the job was complete.
What started out as a menagerie
of cement was turned into a beautiful, smooth, textured, and uniformly
colored surface. The homeowner was very pleased and will get years
of enjoyment out of their "new" patio
